HOW TO PUT YOUR ARTWORK ON CLOTHING

★V1 ( services ) PRINTFUL

★★★

If you are an artist and want to start your own clothing brand, then I'd recommend using a drop shipping or a POD ( print-on-demand ) service. These websites will allow you to upload your artwork and apply it to whatever apparel they have available. Such as shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, bags, and many more accessories. Please be aware of what content you upload, make sure it is your own original work. Fan art depending on the subject matter normally isn't allowed. Unless the character in question is heavily altered. But selling fan art of copyrighted characters may lead to legal trouble, So I would recommend only using fan art. Most POD websites will be free to sign up and use. Just make sure it integrates into your website of choice. These services will receive your orders from your website or storefront and fulfill them. Which includes shipping, packing, and  quality control. You will just have to advertise your website to drive traffic to your store.

I recommend using PRINTFUL because of there quick fulfilment, quality products, and overall ease of use.

★V2 ( preparation )

★★★

To prepare your artwork for clothing make sure first of all that you have a desirable design first. Your illustration should be saved as a PNG, and have the background removed so who only the main content is visible. Next you will want to make sure your image is a high dpi (300dpi or higher.) Also you want your canvas of your artwork to be in inches and to be a large scale as well (5in to 15in.)

Most POD website will have multiple ways to print on clothing these are the most common.

DTG AND SCREEN PRINTING

DTG PRINTING ( Direct-To-Garment )

Which is printed from a printer directly on to the garment of choice.

SCREEN PRINTING

Ink pressed onto the garment of choice

★V3 ( price )

★★★

The way POD website make money is taking a percentage from each order that you receive. The price of your products is very important as well, if it’s too expensive then you wont make any sells from the product. If it's too inexpensive then you wont make any profit and you will have to sell a larger quantity to compensate. Some websites allow you to choose your profit margin which will allow you to create a flexible profit that you will be happy about. The prices of shirts some sites offer depends on the quality of the shirt’s themselves, This may change the prices you have to set for your customers.

★PROS                        ★CONS
No inventory                  Low profit
Low startup cost            Less control
Large product variety     Large competition
